Although I had sworn to myself that I would NEVER spend time creating/upkeeping a blog....after reading many interesting stories from friends' blogs and learning a lot from them...I've decided to (sigh) start one of my own. I had never thought I'd be interesting enough...but something happened today that made me pretty happy.
So last August I was in Uganda, and it turns out that some of the pictures I took weren't half bad - some of them are hanging up at a coffee shop in Langley, BC. To top it off, it turns out that some people think I could actually make some money off the pictures.....so now they're up for sale. My intention was that I could just send any profit above the cost of the pictures back to Uganda...but it's now turned into this 'silent auction' fundraiser to not only give money back but to send ME back. Not half decent!
Anyhow...the story. I was stopping in at the Christian bookstore in Langley to see if they'd hang up a poster about the fundraiser. Here's the scene: Cheryl enters and see's a 'burly' man talking to the only worker in the store. Cheryl speaks with worker about poster/fundraiser. Burly man asks Cheryl where money is going. Cheryl says, 'it's going to people in Uganda.' Cheryl gives poster to worker and starts to head out door.
So, I'm heading towards the door and the 'Burly' man asks me again where the money is going.....so I explained a little more. He then proceeded to dig into his pocket and handed me $5 stating, 'this is all I have on me....give it to those in Africa.' I'm going to be blunt. When I said 'burly,' I actually meant that the guy looked unkempt and maybe close to being homeless....I felt terrible taking the money....but after a wee small 'no, I can't take your money' and the man insisting that I take it, I gave in. And it wasn't until I got in the car that I realized how much that $5 meant.
This guy's $5 was more meaningful than the other 'dollars' that I may be able to raise. I don't know how to describe it....it was just a really nice thing for this guy to do. It was interesting to see God work in this small situation, because I've been worried that the fundraiser won't bring in any 'funds'....maybe this was God's small way of showing me to have a little faith in Him.
Anyhow. That's the story. Hope you didn't get to the end and think...'that's it??' Sorry, that's all I've got today. I'll keep it short and snappy next time!
